What is the iHeart device?

The iHeart system is the health and wellness tool to calculate your Internal Age, a measure of how supple you are on the inside. How supple - or how stiff - you are inside gives you a snapshot of your current heart health and lets you track the effects of lifestyle choices on your Internal Age.

The iHeart system consists of:

• The iHeart Device
• The iHeart Internal Age app
• Recordings, calculations, and analyses of your Internal Age readings kept secure and available on your personal account

While the iHeart system shows you overall health trends and enables wellness tracking, it is not a medical device. Do not use any component of the iHeart system to diagnose or manage any medical condition.

What are the benefits of the iHeart System?

iHEART DEVICE

What is the iHeart Device?

The iHeart device is a fingertip pulse reader that detects and records arterial pulsations in your finger. The sampling rate of the iHeart device is so high that it can detect distinct waves of blood coming from the heart, traveling down the aorta and reflecting back. The iHeart device transmits these recording to your iPad or iPhone, where the iHeart app translates them into a pulse wave for analysis and display. After 30 seconds, you'll have immediate results: Internal Age and Aortic Stiffness reading.

The iHeart device measures real-time heart rate and blood oxygen levels. The amount of oxygen in your blood indicates the overall efficiency of your respiratory system.

iHeart device readings are intended to be used only for fitness and educational purposes.

The iHeart device is not intended to be used for treatment of any medical illness.

The iHeart device is not a medical device. Do not use the iHeart system to diagnose or manage any medical condition.

My iHeart Device isn't connecting to my phone/tablet

The iHeart device connects to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. Please make sure that your bluetooth is turned on before beginning an iHeart recording.

How does the iHeart device read my blood oxygen level from my fingertip?

Oxygen is carried by the hemoglobin molecule in red blood cells. Hemoglobin molecules carrying oxygen and those not carrying oxygen reflect light differently. Using red and infrared light it is possible to calculate how much of the hemoglobin is carrying oxygen (saturated) and how much hemoglobin is not carrying oxygen (desaturated). iHeart is a device for personal health and wellness education. It is not intended to be used for any medical purpose. It is not intended for any medical diagnosis or management of any medical problems. Use of iHeart of oxygen saturation is limited to providing assisting with fitness, health and wellness education in well individuals.

How do I turn on the iHeart device?

Press the white button once. You have 10 seconds to slip it onto your finger before it shuts off.

Does it matter which finger I use in the iHeart device?

We recommend that you use your first or middle finger.

Why is the iHeart oximeter display upside down?

This feature enables you to read the display no matter which hand you test with

To flip the display right-side up, press the white button once.

Why does the iHeart device turn off?

When the iHeart device senses that no finger has been in it for 10 seconds, it turns itself off. This action saves battery power.

To turn on the iHeart device, slip it on a finger and press the white button once.

How is the iHeart device different from other fingertip oximeters?

Other oximeters measure only heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The iHeart device also measures Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity to assess the flexibility of the aorta, the largest artery in your body. How flexible your aorta is reflects the physical effects of your healthy'and maybe not-so healthy'behaviors and choices. This measure forms the basis for determining your Internal Age.

How do I register my device?

To register your device open you iHeart Internal Age app and it the gear button in the bottom right side of the screen, a pop up will show like below. Press 'Register' and you will have registered your iHeart Device!

Does the iHeart App work with both iOS and Android?

iHeart is currently only available on iPhone 4S and newer generations, as well as iPad 3rd Gen and up. Don't worry, Android is coming soon!

Which iPhone & iPads are compatible with iHeart?

The iHeart device uses Bluetooth Low Energy (4.0) to connect to your smartphone/tablet and is compatible with iPhone 4S and newer models, and iPad 3rd Generation and newer models.

How long does the Internal Age Test take?

The iHeart Internal Age test takes 30 seconds with immediate results.

Why is my Internal Age changing test to test?

Variations in Internal Age can be due to a number of factors. To attain the most consistent readings make sure you test yourself at the same time each day, when relaxed, while sitting down and not moving your hand. Variations are very normal, and are related to changes in blood pressure. This is why it is important to see the trend of your Internal Age/Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity numbers over time.

Factors that will affect readings:

Movement will cause inconsistent readings. You can tell that your readings are off if there are spikes in the pulse shape and it does not look consistent.

Food and Drink – Food and drinks affect readings, which is why we suggest testing in the morning before your body has taken in any food or drink.

Caffeine – Coffee and caffeinated teas have negative effects on iHeart readings on the short term and long term. To attain a steady baseline, test before ingesting coffee or caffeinated tea.

Irregular Heartbeat – An irregular heartbeat will have an effect on iHeart readings. You will be able to see if your heart rate is irregular by watching the pulse stream across the screen during testing. The space between each beat should be the same throughout the entire test. If you see it shortening and lengthening, the heartbeat is irregular. If your heartbeat is irregular once every 15 seconds, the iHeart system will be able to pick it up and give you a good reading. If your heartbeat is irregular every few seconds, you will want to save that test and show it to your doctor for review.

How can I get the best iHeart Internal Age recording?
  • Relax and allow your body to settle for one or two minutes before an iHeart recording.
  • Sit still, comfortable, and relaxed for entire 30-second recording.
  • Don't talk or move during the recording.
  • Slip your first or middle finger fully into the iHeart oximeter.
  • Ensure the finger used is warm and dry.
  • Place the hand used in the recording flat on level surface, like a table top or your leg.
What will positively affect my iHeart Internal Age recordings?

Beneficial influences include:

  • Increased daily movement
  • Increased daily laughter
  • Healthy dietary choices, including consuming foods with Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Not smoking
  • Consistent and adequate hydration with clean water and/or green tea
  • Quiet relaxation
  • Peaceful meditation
  • Supportive social relationships
What will negatively affect my iHeart Internal Age recordings?

Detrimental influences include:

  • Too little daily activity
  • Not enough laughter in your life
  • Poor dietary choices, including over-indulgence of processed foods, refined flours and sugars, unhealthy fats, and alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Consistent inadequate hydration
  • Recurring and unresolved stress
  • Few nurturing relationships
How often can I take a recording?

You can record your pulse wave as often as you like, but it is most effective to record yourself at the same time each day.

Note: You will likely see a significant drop in Internal Age after exercise. Exercise is known to lower blood pressure, which decreases Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity, reducing your Internal Age measurement. That's not a bad thing, but where you will gain the most insight on how your outer behavior affects your inner health is by tracking your Internal Age over time and matching changes in those data with changes in your life.

What is the iHeart Internal Age App?

The iHeart Internal Age app collects and analyzes data from the iHeart device to create a pulse wave display and to calculate your Internal Age. It can also show you whether you are growing older or getting younger inside, based on your current and previous iHeart recordings. This trending data, along with the personal notes you can add to a iHeart recording, can help you judge the consequences of different lifestyle choices.

The app is compatible with the iPad 3 (or later versions) and the iPhone 4S (or later versions), and uses Bluetooth(R) 4.0 technology.

iHeart PRO

Can Health & Wellness Professionals use iHeart in their practice?

iHeart provides objective evidence that positive lifestyle choices improve Internal Age. Health and Wellness professionals such as naturopaths, doctors, nutritionists, personal trainers, health coaches, and yoga instructors have reached out in the past year to let us know that they would use iHeart in their practice. We took that info and created iHeart Pro, a separate app that is to be used by health and wellness professionals. Using the same iHeart device, the Professional download the Pro app on the Apple App Store, which comes with 500 user profiles, and detailed reports sent out to each client after their internal age test. Each user profile also comes with an online dashboard through the www.goiheart.com site. We are currently in beta with iHeart Pro and are offering the app for a download cost only, the monthly subscription model will be in place fall 2016.

iHeart PRO - Reports aren't being sent to my clients after recording

For reports to be sent your iPhone or iPad has to be connected to wifi to send data to the iHeart cloud to then be sent back to your clients in the form of a report. If you have been noticing your reports have not been sent out to your clients, please exit your iHeart Pro app, turn on wifi, and re-open your app. The app will synchronize, pushing data to the server and sending out your client's reports.

What is iHeart PRO?

iHeart Pro is a separate piece of software used with the original iHeart device. iHeart Pro has been developed for health and wellness professionals to use with their clients to show objective evidence that the health and wellness professional's services are making a positive impact on internal health, and Internal Age. What is the difference between iHeart & iHeart PRO?

iHeart and iHeart Pro both use the same iHeart device, the difference is the application used with the iHeart hardware. The free iHeart Internal Age app is for consumer use, each iHeart app comes with the following:

What is internal age?

Internal Age is the calculation of how stiff your aorta, the largest artery in your body, is, plus how your aortic stiffness compares to that of others at various ages in different populations. These calculations enable the iHeart system to determine how old you are inside.

Keep in mind that a single Internal Age recording is snapshot of your inner health. Use it as a starting point to measure the effectiveness of your training and lifestyle choices. Because immediate stressors that raise or lower your blood pressure raise and lower your Internal Age, you need to pay more attention to the longer-term trends you will see with the iHeart system.

Why should I care about Aortic Stiffness?

Aortic Stiffness results from age, inactivity, and less-healthy lifestyle choices. The longer these factors go on, the more evident the stiffening.

Aortic Stiffness, as measured by the PYUR Heart System, serves as an indicator of just how much generalized stiffness you have inside and how that has aged you before your time.

Tracking your Aortic Stiffness gives you an objective metric to judge the effectiveness of your training and lifestyle choices. Lowering your Internal Age over time means that you are lessening your Aortic Stiffness and getting younger on the inside.

How do you calculate Internal Age/Aortic Stiffness?

The iHeart System records your pulse waves and transmits them to the iHeart app. The iHeart app analyzes the data to calculate Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity (AoPWV). Your AoPWV shows how quickly the pulse wave, sent out by each heart beat, travels down your aorta to the bottom of your abdomen and back again. The stiffer the aorta, the faster the wave. Your calculated AoPWV is then compared to known values of different ages and populations to determine your Internal Age.

What is Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity?

AoPWV (Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity) is the measurement of the speed of the pressure wave, created each time your heart pumps blood into the aorta, as it races down your abdomen and back up again to appear in your fingertip pulse, where it is picked up by the PYUR Heart device. The PYUR Heart oximeter sends these data to the iHeart app, which calculates how quickly after the start of the pulse did the wave appear. The result is your AoPWV.

How accurate is the iHeart System?

The iHeart system uses a calculation algorithm to determine Aortic Stiffness from Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity (AoPWV). This algorithm has been validated against the 'gold standard' of AoPWV and Aortic Stiffness testing. That standard measures AoPWV directly by timing the pulse wave as it moves past pressure sensors on a subject's neck (carotid artery) and upper leg (femoral artery). Comparisons of data from the gold standard testing and from the algorithm confirmed the accuracy of the heart of the iHeart system.

Why does my Internal Age vary so much sometimes?

Your body is very dynamic, and you will see swings in Internal Age before and after exercise, before and after eating, while stressed, when you're happy, and when you're sad. These swings are normal. Blood pressure, heart rate, and other physiological parameters also change from moment to moment in a similar fashion.
